With a population of approximately 13,000, St. Marys is located in the center of Elk County. While driving north into the city, you can take a look at the smallest church in the U.S.A., Decker Chapel then continue your journey on to the “diamond” where many shops and restaurants are located. There is ample parking so just park your vehicle and walk around this “hometown”.
St. Marys is also known for several powdered metal factories which supplies many jobs to the area. Another major employer is Penn Highlands Elk which is the local hospital. Straub Brewery is still in the same location as when it started in 1872, including the eternal tap and new addition of the Visitors Center and Tap Room.
This area is known for its access to outdoor activities, including trout streams and state hunting lands including the hunting of wild elk. More information on the area elk can be found at the below website.
