The borough of Brookville was initially settled in the late 1790’s and founded in 1830. It is the county seat of Jefferson County and located approximately 80 miles northeast of Pittsburgh. U.S. Route 322 passes through the center of town and leads southwest to Reynoldsville and west to Clarion. Interstate 80 runs through the northern side of Brookville and DuBois is 20 miles to the east.

Brookville has many attractions including the quaint Main Street shopping area. There is also BWP Bats, LLC., which is a unique business in Brookville that makes bats from start to finish, starting with logs and ending up as bats. Another local area attraction is the nearby Hazen Flea Market with weekend hours of operation May thru October, rain or shine. In the past, Brookville’s main source of economic development was the lumber industry and is still home to Brookville Wood Products. Other major employers include Penn Highlands Brookville & the Brookville School District which provides kindergarten through 12th-grade public education for the community
